JC Embroidery, Wessex Stitchery Placemat
A technique developed by Mrs Foster of Bath in the mid 1800’s. Mrs Foster developed a style of stitching that used a combination of a few simple stitches and layering of colour to create a stitched repetitive ground which she used in her samplers.
This example has simplified the colour down to two, to allow intricacy of the patterns that can be achieved with this simple technique to be seen.
Comprehensive stitch diagrams and construction instructions for the traditional folded hem are included.
